Freedom Friday – Nature

Standard

Last week Saturday I had great fun with my departmental peeps. Holla @hospitality guys…you are the best team ever! But the highlights of that outing for me was the Canopy Walk. It was my first and definitely not my last. I was praying seriously under my breath whenever the ropes felt shaky and at the same time thanking God that I left the children in the hall and on the field with other children. As I thought to myself, what would I have told King if I carried King Earl and we climbed up and he started crying, wanting to get down…imagining that scene is giving me frights already. So lets leave it at that.

As you can see, I’m glad I did the trip! Here’s to all the brave people that did the walk regardless of their inner fears. You might not know, but you conquered an ‘enemy’ that day and it will be in the history books that you made it! Way to go Obehi, Jessica and Ogoo! LOL

Freedom Friday – Food

Standard

I always say I love Children, I love Love, I love words (good words), I love God (beyond words), I love family (very much), I love African Beads and now you can add, I love food. It’s Freedom Friday or do I call it Food Friday? I won’t talk much, but let the pictures tell you were I have been and what I have been up too in recent times. I can feel all those rolling eyes and I actually hear the saliva drop down your throats, as they hurry to fill your tummy. Too bad. These are past pictures, but if you do catch up with me, who knows. In the mean while, enjoy! 🙂

Freedom Friday – Speech Games with K.E

Standard

King Earl:  Are you a girl?
Imani: (wondering where this is line of questioning is headed) Yes
King Earl:   Am I a boy?
Imani:         Yes
King Earl:   No I’m not a boy, I’m a son!
Imani:         Okay, you are a son.
King Earl:   No! I’m not a son, I’m a Moon
Imani: (Looking at him incredulously)  But you can’t be a Moon, nah.
King Earl:   I don’t want to be a Son again, I’m a Moon.

King Earl:  Mum, (quite innocently) I want to play your Candy Crush.
Me:           This one is difficult, you have to play with strategy
King Earl:  Okay, I will play with ‘stratedy’
Me:            It’s pronounced STRATEGY. Do you know what strategy is?
King Earl:   Yes (still focused and playing his game).
Me:            What does it mean?
King Earl:   So that we will not have any injury.

There it is!

A 3-year old giving me first hand definition of STRATEGY. Yes, he called it ‘Stratedy’, you know how King Earl can be with his pronunciations, he will simply refuse to call it any other way till he’s ready to do that. But his definition is so on point.

Strategy is “the science or art of combining and employing the means of war in planning and directing large military movements and operations.” Another meaning is “a plan, method, or series of manoeuvres or stratagems for obtaining a specific goal or result:” So when my son says “So that we will not have any injury”, he is correct – whether you agree or not. Not strategizing is bound to get you in the path of ‘casualty’ and though he has not been taught that yet in school, he just coined up his own meaning from whatever he figured mum was trying to say.

This and more are one of the many reasons I talk and listen to children – they say it the way it is! It is left for you to figure it out and understand. It is my day of Liberty and this is my prerogative. I’m still strategizing on how to go past that level of Candy Crush (when I have the time). So what’s your winning ‘STRATEDY’ for today?

Freedom Friday – That one moment that counts

Standard

Interesting topic, right? Well a friend gave me this topic because being an Arsenal fan’atic’, his team switched off at the back in a game they had control over. He is so peeved at them (between you and I, I’m not sure he can kick a pebble…but please don’t tell him I said so). Yet when you hear him and his fellow football ‘analysts’ analyse the men sweating it out on the field, you will wonder why *NFA (Nigerian Football Association) still has Keshi in their employ. Phew

So what am I free about today? Hmmm… Life always brings us opportunities and it is left for us to decided WHAT TO DO, WHEN TO DO IT, and HOW TO MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF IT, being hesitant (most times unnecessarily) makes all the difference in the world. Why did you decide to *toast, *chik, the babe tomorrow, when you could have done it today?! Only for that ‘runaway’ boyfriend to show up and bedazzle her with words, wine and a ‘will you marry me?’ Wake up o! Every moment counts.
One Moment

It is that point in time you suddenly take a left turn and ram into the wall or walk into freedom. I don’t know how you will achieve ensuring that your every moments counts (actually I do, but whether I’m willing to share is another matter…smiling mischievously…oya beg me, I can’t hear you). Well, we women have intuition and everyone has a knowing in them or the Holy Spirit (if you are a believer), one way or the other you will ALWAYS KNOW. But typical of humans to shift it for the next minute.

Okay, where were we? So Arsenal has gotten my friend upset plus Bayern Munich and Real Madrid…What a week! he concludes. What is his business with these other teams by the way? He should think of how to contact Arsene Wenger and give him coaching lessons, if he is that good and allow my ‘poor’ ears to rest.

*toast and chik (whose spelling I’m not sure of) are Nigerian parlance for chatting a girl up with an intention of wooing, ‘deceiving’ or tell her the … she wants to hear. shhhhhh

*NFA – In school, meant ‘No Future Ambition’.

Freedom Friday – Introducing…

Standard

He has been called cute…the King…Bobo…Guy (he named himself this one) and yesterday he kept declaring “I’m a man, don’t call me boy”. Today, I’m introducing him to you, and you and you as the new Leonardo Da Vince and my peace maker.

Last night, Imani and her Auntie were having an exchange and it sounded like a quarrel because someone insisted that someone did something and someone refuted and I just ignored both of them as it sounded funny. King Earl shows up and screams “Enough! I say enough! I don’t want to hear any more noise, okay.” I turned, bemused and concurred, “Please tell them o!” He walks up to me too, “Mummy, I said enough, no more noise” and I replied “Yes Sir”, “Don’t call me Sir, I am a Man”. So I reply, “Yes Man.” We all busted out laughing and he walks away

Why Leonardo Da Vince?

My King is a sculptor and by inference can draw and paint. I don’t know when he started and what his sketches were like, but what I have heard repeatedly is that if you got him something, let’s say a toy car, he would dismantle it and fix it back again. Earl also dismantles, but fixing back is yet to be included in his CV. But when it comes to drawing and recently painting, he is really good for his age. As his is not taking classes from the Senior King on it yet just from his imagination and ability to create.

Our home is full of pictures of Horses and Dragons and Dogs and Rhinos and Dinosaurs and some creatures I’m yet to see (maybe except on some crazy cartoons), but he makes his details easy to pick out. His horses must have their flowing mane – sometimes he puts himself and his sister atop the horse.

Ostrich_King Earl

So today, I decided to let you share in one of them. I will try to collect some and keep but the way it is going, we might have to build a room specially for him and his art-works.

To avoid piracy, he signed his name on it “KING EARL”. By the way, he ruled the line atop his name himself and that’s uniquely his. Ain’t I so blessed?!

Freedom Friday

Standard

Today, I pledge to exercise every ounce of freedom I’m entitled to in my world of words and no wars! All in a bid to celebrate the one for whom my world spins and regulates without fail. One who is in sync with the ONE who created us and put us in the same zone to meet and breathe.

Today I declare to you the words you know so true that speak even in languages we have no clue. So you are reminded that though seasons come and go what we share (like I always say) is pure gold. Actually purer than that and that’s a fact!

Today, I stop in the midst of my daily work race…to declare a love so rare. To the one whom I call King and who knows the drumbeats that get me dancing to tunes yet reviewed. I haven’t written lately about the heights you take me in our walk with each other and with God. I know you know, but since it’s with my powers, I remove all covers that the world would appreciate the power (of love) that come from our years of weeding through the rose flowers.

Today, I simply say, I ❤ YOU my King!20150131_185630

Freedom Friday

Standard

It’s funny how we start something and later on get pre-occuppied with other stuffs. In my heart, I have written a million Freedom Fridays. Oops I just remembered that I had promised Folakemi that today’s Freedom Friday would be dedicated to King Earl’s painting maybe we will do that next week as I totally forgot to bring the paintings along. It is not a Van Gogh but someday, it will be in a class of its own for that I’m totally convinced. I’m glad SeasonedSistah2 is faithfully maintaining her Freedom Friday. Check out what she wrote today.

So what am I on about today?

Oh lalaIt is easy to tell. VALENTINE and Elections. Yup! Boring combo right? But it’s my day and you have to make do with what I am free about…smiling mischievously to myself. Hahahahahahhahahahaha. I saw all manner of DPs some weeks back when Elections was scheduled for 14th February. Guys were dancing ‘Alanta’, ‘Etighi’ and ‘Shoki’ that Government plus INEC had freed them from the financial travails associated with the day. One wonders who put them under that bondage in the first place. Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock!

If I were a boy (like Beyonce sang) I would get down on my knees (my version) and say, help me precious Jesus, make Elections take place that day!

But none did and now Elections have been shifted. So guess who’s doing that dance now? Well, there are ways to free yourself…check the library or Google and you will see solutions on how to escape spending on Val’s Day.

20150206_12004420150206_120106Now to the Election part of my gist. I was on my way to a function and upon lifting my eyes from my phone, I noticed that they were some dark banners on the way and my colleague mentioned that they were actually someone’s campaign banner that was messed up apparently by the opposition party. I’m wondering how low and dirty will we get before we realise that all these silly acts and actions speak a lot about our true nature to our voting public. Well, redeem yourself and repent from such – you are not scoring any points on our cards if you continue this way. A word is enough for the wise. By the way threats don’t help either!

In a twist of Irony, I caught both parties on camera – check the bus and the poster 🙂 20150206_150045

PS: I don pin, uPin? Let’s pin and stay United for Peace in Nigeria.

Freedom Friday

Status

FK for President

It’s Freedom FridayProudly Nigeria

Thank you! Thank you my fiple (people) for all the acknowledgements, kwad bless.

I have watched, read and listened with interest and disinterest (because some of your speeches are really boring, and apart from the many figures/long list of ‘facts’, they are full of lies). So today I’m offering you a new candidate. Away with the OLD and in with the NEW!

FK for PRESIDENT! My ‘poor’ (not literal) FK, she must be red in the face with shock that I’m selling her manifesto to the public. Why won’t I, when we have had it up to our necks with different ideologies and stories and want out! E don do, make una no deceive us again! Wetin!? Is it because we have refused to say anything? Actually, this is the problem with us, but you can’t blame us for being quiet because when we attempted it, we were teargased, thrown in jail and arrested for being bold. Who wants to spend February 14th in Jail? I’d rather be on the queue voting fo rmy beloved FK, than watching some sombre-looking wall with my hands clutching to brownish bars that are not letting me out any time soon.

Wait a moment? Are we not trading our freedom for some invisible bars that will prevent freedom of this and that (please fill the space yourself)? My Pastor shared something on Sunday and the wisdom in it was out of this world and I will share with you. King Solomon was faced with declaring judgement over two women and a baby. Because he was blessed with divine wisdom he was able to choose right and hand the baby over to the woman who would rather give the baby to the other, than watch them divide the child. That’s the heart of a real mother. I said that to say this, anything or anyone that seeks to divide us is not the real mother of the child. A word is enough for the wise and while you are still trying to understand the wisdom of King Solomon, please remember to come out on February 14th and vote for my FK.

In-between: Who fixed the election for that day sef? Not like I do my love on a special day o! I am love personified, oozing from every pore of mine, so I’m not bothered about this fixture.

What is it with all these trading insults and ‘secrets’ across the net about each candidate? Is that what they have to offer us? Just asking o! Oga-in-charge of PR, won’t you change your modus operandi?

Oops, I forgot to state what FK has to offer us:

  • Justice
  • A voice to the helpless
  • Enlightenment which will aid us in informed decisions
  • Diversification of power
  • Change for the better
  • Functional reward system for TRUE heroes (emphasis on TRUE…not politically chosen heroes)
  • No more Aso-ebi (she will sue me for adding this). But FK, seriously, if you ban Aso-ebi, women will not vote for you…don’t worry, you have my vote already.
  • Opportunities for sensible people to be in charge
  • Broad-based Grassroot Democracy
  • Full implementation of MDGs

By the way, we haven’t decided what our party will be called, seeing that all the other politicians have taken all the 26 ALPHABETS…who does that?! Okay, we will use names of all the Kings in the Land (her suggestion), and I think that will be a unique selling point that we have powers that be behind us and our Free-for-All Party; besides by the time you see your village chief’s name as a Political Party, you will vote, knowing your interest is being taken into consideration.

On a more serious note, regardless of how well coated each leader’s story is, put it through the litmus test and watch the result. But then, if you have ROI in their success, you will vote against good conscience. Anyhow, Oluwa is involved and He will settle this matter! Enjoy your Friday!

PS: We share the same initial by the way. What’s your take on this Folakemi?
