I’m In Love With A Cook!

You see, I usually don’t get hungry or eat before 11am and any day I do that, then something unusual had happened. I’ll leave the reasons for another day. Before, you begin your sermon on “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, can I be excused briefly from this Master class? Thank you.

To make matters worse, I don’t love bread (just like my dad 😌) except it is toasted and has some messages inside that I have to decode, then you’ve got me! By the way, those ‘coded messages’ should not make my bread soggy or else, I won’t eat it.

Imagine my shock and much to my delight this morning when I asked Oba to help me with eggs and sausage and the helping took a while as I dressed up, only to see toasted bread in my food pack 😳. I lifted the bread to be sure the eggs were there…after all that’s the request.
Eggs? βœ…
Sausage? βœ…
And I dropped back the bread with a mild protest of “I may likely not eat this because it will get soggy!”
Oba responds, “It’s toasted bread, baby!”
I can see that, but it’s still hot and by the time I get to the office, it will be. I protested.

Fast forward to office scenario:
The bread started calling my name just before work began, I still had time on my hands, I simply ignored it. After all, I don’t get hungry before 11am. Next thing, I knew, I brought the pack out to keep it close so I can delve into it when it’s time but alas, the sounds grew stronger and stronger and with each cry to be redeemed, my defenses fell apart. I hate to admit.

I began thinking about giving you this gist with half a piece gone, but by the time I got to typing the title, the whole slice had disappeared.
Boy! That was delicious!
After adding some messages inside, he pan-toasted the bread. So I didn’t get a hard-crust toasted bread, but a succulent, soft and now decoded bread with my eggs and sausage till awaiting demolition at a later hour.

So you see why I’m in love with the cook, because he knew my button and he pressed it well, till I broke my own law!

It’s #ThankfulTuesday and I have someone to thank God for and he is all mine!

PS: When I told Oba “I’m in love with a cook”, he asked me which one? And I asked him how many he knew. He listed Udy of @foodtopiaud and Idong of @idy_lacremecakes, but left himself out.
This is just you babes! And it’s a double!

#FreedomFriday – My Dollar Periwinkle

Ok…

It’s Freedom Friday and I’m a tad upset about the way everyone is going on and on about the DOLLAR and I’m tempted to ask, what has that gotten to do with the price of Mfi in the market?

What is Mfi?
Mfi aka Periwinkle is that shelled sea food I use to cook my Ekpang Nkwukwo. If you don’t yet understand, find picture attached.

I went to the market the other day and the Mfi was small for the amount I requested and the girl said to me “dollar is expensive” and I retorted “did you import the Mfi or you caught it in the stream beside us” and she replies “it is affecting everything.” See me o!

I am not an Economist, I am a woman and a thinking one at that, so if everything is tied to dollar, tell me the last time the market girl used a dollar to purchase anything in Nigeria and that’s if she’s had a dollar before (not being nasty, just asking questions that need answers). You see in Nigeria, we pride ourselves in being updated with information whether it is right, wrong or imcomplete.

In the cab today, someone said he heard over the radio that “dollar has come down (I wonder where it went up to in the first place), therefore he will pay less the amount he agreed with the cab guy before entering the cab.” The cabman didn’t accept it of course. I know it’s a chain-reaction, but I’m only voicing my annoyance and the attempt by dollar to deprive my Ekpang Nkwukwo and Plantain porridge of her MFI!

#FreedomFriday: A Kaleidoscope of Colours!

Freedom Friday offers me the opportunity to explore and just be me – uncut and raw…in a nice way that is. I’m thinking quietly – maybe loudly and I’m truly tempted to fill your world with the beauty of culture. In Nigeria, we are surrounded by good food and style. As a believer in beauty and good food, I derive pleasure in basking in the pure joys these bring.

So today, I’ll let you in on personal stuff and people I truly love as they display beauty in all their colours. I hope they are pleasing to your eyes, joyful to your heart and widening the smile across your face. Do tell me about it!

Ekpang Nkwukwo

Humming … “I can only imagine”

Yes o! I can only imagine the multitude of people salivating at my topic. Well, that is relative and dependent on my crowd being mostly Nigerians and a few people outside Naija and Africa who know what I’m talking about.

My friends (FK and Lucille) and I had a discussion about a dish I could cook and I chose Ekpang Nkwukwo amongst so many more. To ensure it wasn’t just about something I picked up from the net and forwarded, I made up my mind to cook the main thing and send via web to them. I’m so looking forward to the time when you can cyber-taste food, so Lucille won’t have to travel all the way and neither would I.

Dear Dream Readers, here’s what I came up with and for your information, the Periwinkle is for FK alone as she plans to cook Ekpang Nkwukwo also, but can’t seem to find Periwinkle to add – so I’m sending her these. Hope it will suffice FK. *wink*.

I guess most of you would want to know the process and the ingredients to use, so I’ll suggest this link http://www.mybelledonfull.com/2012/05/18/ekpang-nkwukwo/ to you. Don’t tell FK I said this, but that’s where she’s learning to cook hers. LOL

As for the final thing, I can only give you a plate, as I have so many mouths waiting to enjoy it with me. Besides, I made mine a bit dry, so by the time you add enough liquid to get the porridge, it should go round everyone that wants to taste. I trust I made your evening pleasurable.

Behold...Ekpang Nkwukwo

Pray tell, how did it taste, what would you like for me to cook for you next time?
